About Schultz Digital
Back around 1995 I was working at a gaming studio on titles for Microsoft, mapping images onto 3-D geometry. Developing film and getting those files into the computer was a process, so when the first digital camera came out I bought it immediately. Even though the resolution was rough, I loved the instant gratification of seeing the image right away and getting it into the computer so quickly.
I kept upgrading to the next best digital camera as the technology improved and slowly realized how much I enjoyed photography itself. I built a website, showed the work to a local magazine, and they hired me in 2004. I've been doing it ever since.
I especially love editorial photography. In my personal work I enjoy compositing people or objects into environments I've shot elsewhere, blending different places and moments into a single image. Now that AI imagery has become so capable, I sometimes use it for backgrounds—but any image I put out always includes my own photography mixed in.
I'm a native Arizonan, born in Phoenix and raised mostly in Cave Creek. My photography studio is at the Cattletrack Arts Compound in Scottsdale. Outside of photography I play guitar and drums (and have for most of my life), and I'm trying to become a better cook for myself and my daughter—though she frequently reminds me that her mother's dishes are still better.

The approach
01
Light first
Every image begins with understanding the light — its direction, quality, and temperature. We never fight the light; we work with it.
02
Authentic moments
Posed or candid, the goal is always authenticity. Real expressions, real environments, real stories — never manufactured emotion.
03
Intentional composition
Framing is everything. We consider every element in the frame — what to include, what to exclude, and where to place the subject within the geometry of the image.
04
Post-production as craft
Editing is the final layer of storytelling. We develop a consistent visual language in post that complements the subject rather than overpowering it.
